Online Mahjong Makes its Way into Online Community at Facebook
by Lance Kessel Onlinecasinosworld.com

January 22, 2008

Users of the popular online networking community, Facebook, who have some time to kill while logged in now have the option of playing online mahjong. Launched by the developers at World Mahjong Tour Inc., the multiplayer software application is apparently the first of its kind on Facebook.

One of the most popular games in China and throughout all of Asia, Mahjong has been getting increased exposure in the online world over the last couple of years. Considered somewhat of a Poker for the East, the international game has been catching on quick with Westerners and young gamers intrigued by the history and challenges of mahjong. And with the online gambling industry in full swing as well, there is no doubt mahjong's presence on the Web will continue to expand.

WMT Inc. also released a popular Asian game on Facebook, called Big Two. In conjunction with mahjong, the two games are now freely available to all 61 million plus Facebook users. Since much of Facebook's presence is in North America and Europe, the amount of exposure for World Mahjong Tour is something of a first for an Asia focused gaming company.

WMT's founders, David Wang and Pierre Wuu, said they are very excited about the relationship with Facebook and that they are hoping to bring even more Asian games to the online community. The two men said they also have other networking and community sites in mind to host their suite of online games in the near future. The ease of accessing the games on Facebook, which can be played for fun or in competitive format in both Chinese and English, is a good start, and time will tell just how much the games will catch on.
