PPA Chairman Predicts US Online Poker Regulation
in Eighteen Months

The recently adjourned Global Gaming Expo (G2E) in Las
Vegas was home to some very promising news for the online
casino and poker gaming industry, which the Chairman of the
Poker Players Alliance (PPA), former Senator Alfonse D'Amato,
is confident will help to regulate online poker in the next
eighteen months. More optimistic and hopeful than convicted in
his statement, Mr. D'Amato said that with major World Trade
Organization sanctions against the U.S. on the horizon,
revising the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act will
likely come sooner than later.
Of course, that all depends on just how fast the sanctions
come, not to mention the extent of the sanctions. The theory
is that several U.S. based non-gaming corporations will likely
suffer the most from the sanctions. If these corporations step
up pressure against the U.S. to revise its stance on internet
gambling (and you can rest assured the corporation's will do
so if it looks prominent they will lose business and money),
the U.S. will be more willing to do so.
It's unfortunate that it would have to come to this, that
is, the pressure of financially backed corporations, rather
than the wants of U.S. citizens - the majority of whom oppose
the ban against online casinos anyways. However, just that it
happens is what online gamblers and operators are hoping for.
Right now, gamblers are in unsafe waters. In fact, nearly 70%
of gamblers are not entirely confident in the integrity of
most online casinos doing business on the Web currently.
Agreeing with D'Amato's sentiments that online poker is
likely to be legalized before online casino gambling were the
CEO's of MGM Mirage, Harrah's Entertainment and the Alderney
Gambling Control Commission (one of the leading international
regulators of online casinos and poker rooms). When that time
comes, you can bet that leading brick 'n mortar casino
companies like MGM and Harrah's will jump right in with
virtual counterparts of their popular Las Vegas casino brands.
